Planning Technology Initiatives

a. Vision/Goal
The vision of this plan is to show how the Flip Camera can be utilized in schools. It can be used to teach lessons, assess students, track student's progress, provide demonstrations, or allow for student/teacher creativity in projects and presentations. The Flip Camera can be used in all subjects and in all grades. Both the teacher and student can benefit from having one of these within their school. It can be incorporated within the curriculum and meets the needs of the 21st Century Standards of Learning. Students of all abilities and learning styles can learn and have a part in using this within their class.

The goal of this plan is to show the simplicity of how the Flip Camera works. Educators with little to no technology experience can learn to use this and demonstrate its capabilities to their students. Through this learning experience, students would also show their understanding of the lessons within their subject.

b. Current Technology Policies
Teachers are provided with a laptop with Microsoft Office and internet access installed throughout the school premises. Students are allowed to use the computers in the library and resource rooms. Both teachers and students are given passwords that they must use to sign in order to use the machine. Teachers and students do not have the ability (password protected) to install new hardware, software, programs, or make changes on the computers.

c. Decision Making
The Technology Committee for the Flip Camera initiative consists of teachers, tech supervisor, information resource director, and department chairs. The tech supervisor will facilitate any questions or problems that teachers have while using the Flip Cameras. The teachers using the Flip Cameras will give feedback to the other teachers participating and their department chairs. There is also a blog provided so everyone can communicate since not everyone can have face-to-face interactions with everyone. The Technology Committee would be expected to check the blog in case questions are posted so everyone can learn from each other.

d. Communication
At the beginning (during the planning process), the Technology Committee will be communicating via email, blog, and face-to face meetings as needed. Once we gather information and put the plan into motion, we will be meeting at least twice for training purposes and then once weekly school to discuss progress and issues as they arise. Skype will be used to communicate with those members not within the school.
